Just Chris today and since he had the choice of Monday's, Tuesdays or Thursdays workouts to do, I let him choose.  He didn't want the Amazing Grace workout.  So, of course, I had him do Amazing Grace.  His reasoning was that he didn't want to do Amazing Grace because he is terrible at it.  My reasoning was that he should do it because he is terrible at clean at jerks.  It worked, he was better at the end of the workout because he had to be to move the load.

Gladiator Rock and Roll Run

I was worried on Friday because it was a nasty rainy day, but Saturday turned out to be an absolutely perfect day to go out and play in the mud.  We went to the Pacific Raceways track in Kent, parked in a field the size of Rhode Island and walked for half a day to the track.  We wandered around and walked through the end of the race course, got race ready and checked our bags.  The start was on the race track behind a monster truck that took off every half hour as the ear drum busting announcement of the start of each wave.  When the truck went we went and I hung with Zach for about as long as it took to get over the timing mats.  He was possesed by the Zach demon and he was gone.  He was so far gone that he missed a turn and had to climb over a fence to get back on track.  We ran some bleachers, waded through an ice filed swimming pool, climbed walls, rocks and tires, carried rice to a Buddha statue, got hit by big balls, jumped over fire, slid down a plastic covered hill...it was great.  The guy running the show as American Gladiator guy Nitro...whoever he is.  Very nice guy.  It was a grand and wonderful day.

Small adjustment to the Amazing protocol with the Clean and Jerk.  Instead of keeping the weight the same for each of the initial sets, we added, 10, 10 and 30 lbs and then took off 50.  Wore us all out.  Great workout followed by a 1,000 meter row.  Rich had a wonderful 3:31 with Corey just a pull or two behind at 3:35.  I don't see anything that close to 3:30 in the near future.

Zach does not seem to have a problem with her though and managed a stellar 2:22.  I couldn't do it that fast with a plastic stick.  Did the Super Squats after Fran knowing that doing them before would have crippled our thrusters.  This one always leaves me miserable.

Clean and jerk first, but not really heavy.  It served as a nice warm up for a variation of Lance's favorite: Hard.  The variation is that each round is preceded with a row or a run and it finishes with a run.  Jennifer told me (repeatedly) that there are way too many rows in this workout.  At row 3 I agreed with her.  Lisa, tiny Asian girl, beat me.  There was 3000 meters of rowing in that workout and she still managed to beat me.  I am mortified.

Zach and I ran the stairs today, Zach was 22:51 and I was 23:14. He would have beat me by more but I kept holding on to his shirt. Later, because he has no respect for his elders (and only Sammie is not his elder) he did a beautiful squat snatch with 155.His bodyweight.He can be so irritating sometimes. So we did Super Squats first and Rich is up to 230, then snatch and power cleans with reps of 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...right, no 7's. (That's going to bug Rich). I wanted the reps close to the 5 x 5 workout. After that we did the flutter kick AMRAP. Nice finisher.

This was the best workout ever.  I have been looking forward to this every since I cobbled it together and it did not disappoint.  I had a little bit of everything and it was perfectly miserable.  It had a universal appeal, but of course in an "I hate you" sort of way.  Glorious.

Super Squats first which surely made for miserable DB Thrusters in Olivia.  Funny how I can squat 200 lbs 20 times but cry like a baby thrustering two 35 lb dumbbells.  Weird.  Tiffany absolutely ate this workout up and had her best performance, like...ever.  After the Super Squats and Olivia we did KB PP for AMRAP in 3 min.  Nobody liked that at all.  For some reason it felt extra difficult today.

Super Squats first which absolutely murdered our Thermopylae times...though, in actual fact we were all faster.  Every one of us were miserable the whole time though.  That's a leg destroying workout.  In spite of yesterday's Pukie drive by, Zach went out like a rocket again but this time he held it together and lapped me.  He came in from his run on round 4 before I left for mine.  He is of no value to me in my pursuit of positive self worth.

Zach came out of the gate on fire today and by the time he was 10 minutes in he got burnt.  Poor guy had to pray over the bucket a couple times.  Never gave at the alter, but be did a lot of praying.  Then after the workout he sat with the bucket, but never had to tithe.  Sometimes it just doesn't pay to go balls out from the start.  There were plenty of hard parts and no matter what was last that would have been the hardest but Grace happened to come last and that was a very tough finish...though thrusters after wall ball was no picnic either.

Clean and Jerks 5 x 5 to start then the 100 and finally max KB PP in 3 minutes.  The clean and jerks made the 100 more miserable then it would normally be.  The Colleen and Jerks were the worst.

The whole bowl and the 162 extra stairs out of the bowl today and all of us felt the effects of not having done them in awhile...well, Tiffany has never done them and she was ever so happy to be there.  There was  football game going on so we all must have looked very indecisive about where we wanted to sit.  The stairs weren't enough for Steve so he came in and did Heavily Armed...again, and with 65 lb dumbbells.    Ed brough his boys but only Damarco worked out with him...his brother played football today.

Deadlift 5 x 5 to start followed by Santa Maria.  The box jumps are miserable.  I almost fell on my face on my first jump.  Always kind of a surprise as to whether or not you are going to be able to make it on top of the tire after the row and the air squats.  I almost took Steve out.  Most people worked out this morning, just Tiffany and Rich in the afternoon.  Jim's back for the rest of the month and then he PCS's to New York.  Sorry to see him go.  Zach's gone for a bit on leave and not a peep from Mike or Dave.  Oh, stairs tomorrow, Saturday at 10:00.  In case you read this in time.

We started with a push press workout with 2 x 4, 3 x 3 and 4 x 2. Zach took the day here with a 215 lb push press at 155 BW. That just bugs the hell out of me that he is lighter AND stronger than me, and most others. Annoying. Rich did 200 lbs and I think I did like 46 or something. Next we did max double unders in 3 minutes and that was entertaining. For me. Watching people flog themselves with a jump rope really cracks me up. Some ab work followed and then at the end we did Angina. That's a brand new workout for the Gladiator bunch and for anyone trying to induce tachycardia.

So, I beat Zach today.  At Blackjack.  Yup, 7 thrusters, 7 pullups and 7 burpees for 5 rounds.  Stomped him.  OK, sure he was using 135 and I was using 95, and maybe he was wearing his bunker gear and so what he weighs 20 lbs less than me and maybe it was only 4:17 that I beat him by...but it was a victory and I will savor it.  Had he beaten me under those circumstances I think I would have quit CrossFitting and taken up cross stitching.

Zach humbled us all again with a 31:18 Evil Air Assault...blistering.  Rich grumbled his way through Kitchen Cinco and took back his comment during 4-play was just as bad.  It's not.  Tiffany went after Helen wanting to get some more running in before the Gladiator race later this month.  New guy Ed found out that something simple like rowing, wall ball, swings and ball slams for 21-15-9 can be crushing when done all together and fast.  Now that's how you get your HR up.

I have a rather strong friend named Chris who can bench the Queen Mary.  With the people on it.  He has a daughter named Kelsie and he told me he would structure his workouts so he could get it done during Kelsie's Naptime.  Seemed like a great name for a workout.  It's is quite a metcon hit and it never finds your muscle's failing, but your lungs certainly would rather be doing something else.
